iOS Control Center clone pulled from Google Play

One of the best features in iOS 7 is Control Centre. It allows you to quickly change setting such as brightness, music playback, toggle Wi-Fi on/off and launch apps such as calculator and flashlight. A couple of weeks after Apple’s announcement of iOS 7, an Android clone was created. 

 Today it got pulled by Google due to a take down request from Apple. This isn’t the first time Google has removed an app due to a request. In 2011 they took down Siri for Android and a popular console emulator PCSX was removed due to a Sony request.

CyanogenMod 10.2 will come with Focal app

CyanogenMod will be coming with it’s new Focal Camera app. Focal, which was unveiled last week, is a camera app which will replace the stock camera app that comes in CyanogenMod. Focal improves greatly on the stock camera app, by adding much more settings but still keeping some of the features of the stock app such as photo sphere. 

CyanogenMod 10.2 is still in development but “quick progress” has been made. Focal will not be available for CM 10.1 nor will it be available in Google Play because it would be “it would be too much work to maintain”.

Samsung allegedly fakes benchmarks scores

Benchmarks are often criticized because they can be easily manipulated. Anand tech has discovered that the benchmarks for the Octa-core Galaxy S4 were run on a device with higher CPU and GPU clock speeds than the usual model. They also discovered an app called “BenchmarkBooster” which over clocks the CPU and GPU when certain apps were running. Is Samsung the only one doing this or are Qualcomm and Nvidia doing the same?

Facebook mobile games pilot program

Facebook mobile games pilot program was announced today at the Casual Connect Conference. The platforms allow indie developers to take their game to a broader audience by helping developers target players who might be interested. Facebook will also provide feedback through  analytic tools which will allow developers to hit a broader audience

The program isn’t open to everyone yet, but if you are a “high potential” indie game developer, you might have a shot at joining.

Sony Xperia Z available on Bell

The Sony Xperia Z is finally available on Bell. The Z will cost $150 on a 2 year term and will cost $650 outright.

The Z, not to be confused with the ZL, was launched at  CES 2013. It comes with a 5 inch 1080p display, a quad-core processor, 2gb of ram, a 13 megapixel camera and a 2,330 mAh battery. It runs Android 4.2 and will be updated to 4.3.

Blackberry Q5 launching in Canada on August 13

Yesterday, we told you that the Blackberry Q5 will be launching of Koodo for $350. Today Blackbbery issued a press release saying that the Q5 will be launching on Bell, Telus, Virgin Mobile, Koodo, Fido and Sasktel. They will be priced, all like the Koodo model, for $350.

The Q5 will come in black on all carriers except for Virgin Mobile who have the red model as an exclusive. The Q5 comes with a 3.1 inch 720 by 720 display, a 2,180 mAh battery, a 5 megapixel rear and a 2 megapixel front facing cameras, with 8 gb of storage which is upgradable with a micro sd card up to 64 gb.
